DERMAL FILLERS

What are dermal fillers?

As the skin ages, it gradually loses collagen, elastin and fat. These are the components of the skin that give it structure - the skin's scaffolding. When present in high amounts, skin is supple, firm and plump. As the levels of these components decrease, our skin becomes thinner, more lined and wrinkled with reduced volume, plumpness and fullness.

Strategically placed fillers take the place of lost fat pads and collagen. This helps to restore the skin's volume and fill deep wrinkles, giving the face a firmer, more youthful appearance. Not only are injectable fillers used to restore lost volume and firmness, they can also be used to sculpt and change the appearance of your face.

There are products available which can dissolve fillers, so the effects of dermal fillers are not only temporary, but they can be reversed if necessary.

How the treatment works:

Most dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid. When injected into the skin, hyaluronic acid attracts water, instantly filling out wrinkles and adding volume and shape where necessary.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within the body, which makes adverse reactions to it unlikely.

There are a variety of techniques to administer fillers in a subtle way to reshape lips, add lost volume to the face and fill out folds. Lip fillers can also be used to address any asymmetry in lips, particularly clients with cleft palates.

I will tailor the treatment to your specific facial anatomy to avoid over filling and create a natural result.

They can feel uncomfortable however numbing cream can be applied before treatment and local anaesthetic can be included within the product.

How to prepare for appointment:

In the week before the treatment, avoid taking aspirin (unless prescribed by a doctor), ibuprofen, vitamin E and fish oil supplements. These may increase bleeding and bruising. You can take paracetamol.

If you are taking any prescribed medication, including aspirin, do not stop taking it – consult your practitioner or your GP first.

Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before your treatment, as this also increases the risk of bruising.
